Classic Pop Magazine Analysis:
On the cover of the magazine a band (Duran Duran) is presented to us. There are four band members and they are standing very artificially. Three of the men are standing while one of them seems as if he is leaning on something. The name of the band,Duran Duran, is presented over the image of the band and is the reason we cannot see what one of the band members is leaning on. Also underneath this a cover line that reads 'MODERN THINKING: THE MAKING OF PAPER GODS.' This attracts the reader to the magazine as it is advertising that they have an article focusing on how Duran Duran's new album 'Paper Gods' was made. They are all wearing leather jackets and have been placed on the cover with an artificial background. However they all share a small white border around them, so that they stand out against the background, which appears to be a sky. The picture appears very serious suggesting to the reader that they are a band that want to be taken seriously.
On the contents page the band is featured once again but not on their own. There are eight other articles that are featured on the contents page, however we know that the most important one is the one about the band on the front as it is the biggest image. The band has been presented on the first page of the double page contents, meaning that it is likely to be seen or read first. The page number that the article is on is displayed in large bold numbers in the corner of the image. Again the most important article has the largest page number on it. This second image of the band appear more natural than the first as they seem to be walking towards you.
A double page spread is used to introduce the band and the four page article. The image itself spans across the whole of the two A4 pages. It is a different image from the cover and is once again artificial. They appear to be in an abandoned house or warehouse. Two of the members are seen sitting down and the other two band members are seen standing on either side. Coupled with the image is a large title that reads 'PAPER CUTS' and a small paragraph about their new album, to entice the reader to read the article on the next four double pages. In amongst this paragraph there is also a quote from one of the band members, John Taylor.
The first double page includes the start of an article that spans across four double pages. The image featured on this double page is of the lead guitarist, John Taylor, who co-founded the group Duran Duran on the cover but rather of a guitarist on a stage with his arms in the air and the image itself covers just over a A4 page.
The second double page spread has the continued article on it and has an image featuring what appears to be the lead singer from Duran Duran. He is seen in the same clothes as on the cover singing a song with a guitarist behind him. Again the image spans across a whole A4 page.
On the third double page spread the same image that was used on the contents page, has been used. However this time it is a much more enlarged image that spans across the whole of an A4 page and overlaps slightly into the next previous page. The article has once again been continued on this double page aswell.
On the final double page spread the article finally comes to an end. This time the image features one of the band members playing an electronic keyboard. The band member seems very focused and immersed. The image this time, only covers about two-thirds of an A4 page rather than a whole one. Underneath the article there is an exclusive track by track guide of 'Duran Duran's' new album 'Paper Gods.'
Each double page is also accompanied by a quote from a member of the band talking about their experience as pop stars and as a band. In addition to thism, on three of the four double pages, there is a little segment revealing facts and information about the band.
