House Magazine Double Page Spread Analysis:

Main Image:
The main image stretches across both pages and consists of multiple images that have been placed together in a collage. These images appear to be cut-ups of pictures of people at clubs and gigs. The collage technique allows the editor to to make the double page appear as a nightclub/gig. He or she does this by utilsing different colours across the double page spread, to give the impression that lights are be shone over the page, just like in a night club. Also the use of multiple images of people creates an exciting atmosphere, as once more, the double page spread reminds you of a nightclub and it allows you to get fully emersed in the atmosphere. The is one image that stands out against the other, mainly due to the fact that it is yellow rather than red and purple like the others. By combining a different colours and a rather obscure image, the editor has successfully created a way of attracting the audiences attention and has managed to still keep the page looking professional and relevant. This image that stands out, is an image of a man that is singing and enjoying himself at a club. He appears very aggressive but is rather fully emersed in the clubbing experience.
Masterhead:
The masterhead covers about half a page on the left side and it only consists of two words 'HARD TIMES?' The title is a very brief question that instantly creates a sense of enigma upon reading it. As it's only two words and is the largest text on the page, it is the thing that your gaze is immediatly drawn to. The text is also in two differnt colours; the first word is in white and the second word is in yellow. The white text has been used as it stands out well against the images across the page and the yellow text is used to display a consistent house style as yellow has already been used on the page. The editor does not want to start adding too many differnt colours as it would unprofessional.
Article:
This follows conventions, as every double page spread has one. It is only a small article and is sometimes an interview with an artist. The most striking part of the paragraph is the drop-capital used at the beggining of the text. Drop-caps are an effective way of grabbing the readers attention because they add personality and visual strength to the page.
