Genre Research:

House music is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in Chicago in the early 1980s. It was initially popularized in Chicago, circa 1984. House music quickly spread to other American cities like Detroit, New York City, and Newark – all of which developed their own regional scenes. In the mid-to-late 1980s, house music became popular in Europe as well as major cities in South America, and Australia.

A lot of house music is related to DJ's and the the partying lifestyle; clubbing and gigs etc. Dance also plays a big part in the genre as it aims to get people dancing and enjoying the music.

My target Audience - DIYers:

DIYers are creative, tech savvy self-starters that bring culture to life for Tribes today – they produce music, promote club nights, start indie brands and create festival stages. Many are also Creatives, but DIYers are set apart by their aspirations to ‘make it’, create events and actively influence culture in their area. DIYers used to be focused more in London, but in 2015 all major cities have a strong DIY scene. While their 2012 touch points remain (resourceful, tech driven and business orientated) to be a DIYer in 2015 you need to have seen genuine success – so vlogging with 1M+ followers can make you a DIYer, but being a bedroom DJ or Tumblr fanatic won’t! As the DIYers do not fall victim to the mainstream DJ music they do not like music David Guetta and Avicii, who are personally two of my favourite DJ's.  DIYers would be stupid enough to listen tyo this music but rather take inspiration from it. Some of their most famous works would have to be 'Levels' - Avicii and 'Titanium' - David Guetta.

Here is a list of Artists that fall under the DJ title and would be some of the first names that spring to mind if you asked a DIYer to state his favourite bands/artist:

- Deadmau 5
- David Guetta
- Subfocus

- Swedish House Mafia
- DJ Fresh
- Skrillex
- Chase and Status
- Tiesto

Questionaire:

I decided that it would be a good idea to do a questionaire on people's favousite music genre etc to help me out with my research. I went with seven questions that I thought would help me identify people's likes and dislikes.

  • What radio stations do you listen to?

  • What music genre do you listen to?

  • How long do you spend listening to music each day?

  • Do you orefer to go out or spend the night in listening to music?

  • Do you have a favourite artist(s)? If so who?

  • Are you a fan of remix's or do you prefer original songs?

  • If a song has been overplayed do you continue to listen to it or just forget about it?

  • Do you enjoy going to watch music live or do you just prefer listening to the recorded version?

Audience Expectations:

> "Normally the featured artist's album is advertised somewhere in the magazine"

> "I would expect there to be some sort of guide, either for popular songs or gigs etc.."

> "Two or more double page spreads on the featured artist"

> "Website needs to be advertised at the bottom of the magazine pages"

> "A list of upcoming events is a must have for the DIYers"

> "Its always better if the artist on the front cover is looking at you. I would be more likely to buy a magazine if the artist is looking straight at you."

> "It's always nice when there is an article on up and coming DJ's and Artists"
