This shoot proved very difficult from the start. The biggest problem, oddly enough, was lighting the flowers. At first I tried Brandy and Whisky but neither of them worked. I then tired petrol which of course worked extremely well, probably a bit too well, as the fire was a bit too aggressive. But I stuck with it and got some mixed results. In terms of location, I tried doing it in the wood burner in our garden, and it worked great until the fire burnt out which happend really quickly. In terms of camera settings I kept the shutter speed low like I planned, to help get smooth flames, within the composition. The aperture was kept around F6.3 to try and make the most of the light and I kept the IOS around 400.
I attempted the shoot a second time, but this time I did it indoors, in the kitchen. I used a wine bottle to hold the flowers while they were lit. Again I had trouble lighting the flowers. I tried White Spirit and Vodka but for some reason it wouldn't hold the flame for more than a few seconds. Then I had an idea to use deodorant which worked to a certain extent and it burned with a blue flame. Then finally I tried petrol again, which worked a lot better than the first time. I managed to keep the flame controlled so the photographs came out decently. Below I will place the best and edited photographs out of the 200 odd that I took.
