Preparation for Chemistry Shoot
Statement of Intent:
I find myself in a strange position as the last two shoots that I have undertaken are very dissimilar to my original 'Josef Sudek developed Shoot.' However, there is the one link throughout all the the work that I have done so far, and that is liquids. I find myself fascinated by how liquids distort and decompose in anything that you place it in. I particularly found myself enjoying doing the 'Water Experimentation' shoot as I found the way that liquids (inks in this case) dispersed once inside the water, intriguing. In addition to this the 'Corey Holms developed Shoot' made me look at other mediums, such as oil, as the water wasn't working as well as I thought it would.
For my next shoot I would like to explore the idea of water breaking down compounds. I spoke to the Chemistry department in my school and they suggested that dissolving 'Copper Sulfate' and 'Potassium Permanganate' would create some colourful effects. Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea how the shoot will pan out but for that reason I am excited. I plan to keep the shutter speed very high as I will want to capture the salts as soon as the enter the water and react. However this will mean that I will have too keep the aperture as wide as possible (3.4 on my lens) otherwise the photos will be too dark. In addition to this I will use some studio lighting as well to brighten up the subject. A tripod will also be used to keep the camera steady.
