Maxwell Danger

I decided to look at this photographer, as I was interested in his setup and technique for the shoot above. As far as I am concerned, he's not a known photographer, hes probably a student, as I found the photographs on a blog that he wrote. The most interesting thing about the shoot, was that he shot it in the bathroom, which I thought was rather peculiar. He used the bath as a 'safety net' with a bit of water in it, in case anything went wrong. The backdrop was simple and effective, he just hung a black sheet on the wall, behind the bath and then he used an old box to raise the flowers out of the bath, so that they could be photographed. In his blog he also states that he soaked the flowers, in 90% alcohol, the night before, rather than doing it on the day of the shoot. One things that I discovered when researching this type of photography, is that the shutter speed is kept relatively low so that the flames are silky and smooth in the photographs. It also helps to capture the colours of the flames properly. This shocked me as the 'Fire Experimentation' shoot that I did required a very high shutter speed to help capture the beauty of the flames. Below was his setup...
