Josef Sudek Developed PhotoShoot

For my first photoshoot I will produce a series of photographs that 'generate a melancholic atmosphere that resonates personally' for me. I will base it around inspiration that I have gathered from researching Josef Sudek.

I plan to produce a series of photographs that are similar to Sudek's 'The Window In My Studio' series. In this series Sudek utilizes natural light to help create deep contrast in his photographs. So I plan to utilize the large patio doors at the back of my house to help me to create a very similar setup. In the morning, if it is sunny, lots of light enters the house through the glass panes, so I will carry out the photoshoot in the morning and may possibly experiment with different times of day also. In terms of the 'Mise en Scene', I will setup a small table near the glass panes, gather a selection of glasses and a selection of objects also, to experiment with. A jug of water will be used for filling up the glasses with water etc... I may also try experimenting with the jug as well. When researching Sudek and his work I noticed that the light used in some of the photographs was very directed, only bit of the composition was in light. So I will use cardboard sheets to help block out and direct some of the light, for some of the photographs that I take. When it comes to the camera settings, I want to capture the light but try and create a gloomy effect, so in order to do that I may have to use a fast shutter speed and keep the aperture open at about F7.1 but if the photographs come out too dark I may have to open the aperture up to let more light in. That will of course involve reducing the F-Stop to about F5. I will probably try to keep the shutter speed relatively high so that I don't get any camera shake when taking the photographs.
